Committee News

Paul Workman, Chairman of Cloth Road Artists, has been working with the committee over the last year to take Cloth Road successfully on towards the next event in 2010. Esme Howard remains the Membership Secretary and Treasurer. Other committee members are Anne Poole, JoAnne Huntley, Elisa Amor, Samantha West, and Janice Harding.

The committee meet every other month or so to plan and organise so that the Cloth Road Arts Week continues to be an important calendar event in May in West Wiltshire every other year.

Please feel free to keep in touch with us with your news and ideas. Newsletters will circulate to members, usually once a quarter, and the newsletters together with the website, will provide information about membership, interim events, the arts week, and keep you informed about other events and opportunities that we are notified about ourselves.

We look forward to meeting more people who'd like to join or get involved with Cloth Road Artists. Please get in touch with us if you'd like to help on the committee with organising this event.

Cloth Road Arts Week - Sat 1st to Sun 9th May 2010

Cloth Road Arts Week 2010 promises to be the best yet, with a record number of members and a greater variety of venues. This time amongst the many spaces we will be showing work at two pubs, the Lamb on the Strand, and the Somerset Arms at Semington. Galleries such as the Old Mill at Worton and the new Glove Factory Studios design and small business centre at Holt will provide prestigious showcases.

Importantly we will be enjoying a higher profile in Trowbridge this time with the participation of the Museum, which will host an exhibition comparing historic photographs of the town with contemporary pictures of the same scenes taken by Cloth Road member John Sansom. This particular exhibition will remain on view for three months.
Natasha Rampley will once more be opening her Waterworks Studio off Bradford Road and Roundstone Framing will be utilising their space in Court Street to also show work.

Cloth Road Arts Week hopes to encourage as many varied participants as possible, especially young people and to that end the 6th form art students of John of Gaunt School will be showcasing their exceptional talents in their dedicated gallery.

We hope you'll enjoy a vibrant and interesting week with the artists.

Bradford-On-Avon Arts Cafe - Next Date
Thursday 4th February 2010 - 8pm -
Upstairs at The Fowl, Bradford-on-Avon, in the town centre.

The cafe is an informal social and networking event for artists, musicians, performers, writers, poets, technicians, enablers, funders, entrepeneurs and enthusiasts. Everyone is welcome. So go along and meet up for a drink, a snack and conversation to exchange ideas and discover news of what's going on.
The Fat Fowl is in the centre of the town on the roundabout junction just over the bridge.

Bar and snacks available.

Gareth Leake has taken over the running of the cafe from Julia Warin, since the funding for her post was removed. Gareth has bravely offered to keep the cafe going on the back of his voluntary efforts. He hopes he will be able to arrange an informal talk, presentation, musical slot, or sharing of work as a part of each meeting, so all ideas and contributions are very welcome. As the Arts Cafe funding has now dried up, Gareth will need to generate a small fund to cover nominal running costs, such as the hire of a digital projector. He is suggesting we do this by collecting £1 from everyone on the night and any surplus built up can be reinvested in the Arts Cafe.

Some evenings will invite all artists to bring along a piece of work to discuss. Contact Gareth Leake to check the plan for the evening.

To ask any questions to Gareth, or to put your name down to go along and talk about your work and what interests you, contact Gareth Leake, email at gaz.leake@virgin.net

Details for the next Arts Cafe' 4th February 7:30 for 8:00.
Get in the mood for Valentines Day and join local Poet Dawn Gorman who will be reading some of her published work. The theme for the evening will be 'Love'.
Make it a night to remember and bring along a poem of your own or one that is special to you, to be read out. It would be good to see some of your own artwork along the same theme too, for us to discuss and share.
Be as lateral as you would like! Any musicians who who like to bring their instruments along for some impromptu serenading it would be great to hear from you. Looking forward to seeing you all.

For ongoing information see the arts cafe home page on Gareth Leake's website: http://www.garethleakesculptures.com/january-2010-mailing.html
