Nisbett, Caro

I’m celebrating 40 years of creativity 1981-2021. From my start in 1981 as a Designer at Conran Design Group, Covent Garden, London, to Bradford on Avon where I’ve lived for over a decade. My historic cottage studio is in what once was a weavers’ workshop c.1775 where weavers wove broadcloth on hand looms before the industrial revolution therefore my art, design and crafts are inspired by local Wiltshire Weavers’ History and by old Folk songs as gathered by Cecil Sharp. The images here range from giclée prints of flights of historic fantasy to colour artwork for textiles, drawn portraiture from life and an heraldic crest for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra RPO. BACKGROUND: BA Degree Graphic Design & illustration: St Martin’s School of Art, Covent Garden, London, led directly to a DESIGN CAREER beginning with 7 years at Conran Design Group, London, producing designs and surface decoration for textiles and homeware products for Sir Terence Conran’s many shops including Habitat, The Conran Shop, Heal’s, Mothercare and other clients. After 7 wonderful years at Conran’s it was on to freelance illustration work and designing product gift ranges. Life included opening the first DIGITAL ART GALLERY in London, at Colville Place, W1, (owned and run by my then husband) as we worked at our Design company whilst bringing up two sons. Creativity, art and design continue to the present day culminating in creating digital iPad images (inspired by David Hockney’s iPad art) for digital giclée prints and textiles from my art studio and on display in my own ART GALLERY in my historic Weaver’s cottage in Bradford on Avon along with “punk stitching” handmade textiles and printed Artwear textiles too.
